The pandemic continues to disrupt the target communities of our project partners. Some areas are in strict lockdown but in other areas restrictions have been easing.
We created the COVID-19 Relief project to help deal with relief needs in multiple locations. Until April 2021, our focus has been toward communities in existing projects in Bangladesh, Cameroon and India.
Our focus now is PNG, where an emergence of Covid in recent months has put enormous pressure on the health system. PNGBTA (Bible Translation Association) has decided to do what they can to help. We are sponsoring a project that involves using trained literacy teachers in a workshop setting to translate English-based Covid19 materials into the major languages near Port Moresby city. The translated materials will provide helpful COVID advice and warnings to the rural population of PNG who still use their mother tongue.
The initial project covers seven languages. If this proves successful, PNGBTA would like to use the same methodology in other languages based around key regional centres.
